Where this design came from

You just have to paddle harder.

My first real sunset surf. Smaller day, and I actually made it past the break, which felt like a win on its own. Once I was out there I wasn't in a hurry. I sat with the swell, watched the sky start to glow, and went for a wave every so often, more out of ceremony than ambition.

I noticed a grom out there too, grumpy for reasons I didn't understand at the time, ducking under the water every so often like he was looking for something. As I made another half hearted attempt for a wave, I heard a frustrated voice: "you just have to paddle harder." Fair point, I giggled. We were clearly having two very different sessions.

I've thought about that evening a lot since, mostly the color, but also him. I'm fairly sure now he'd lost a fin and was diving for it the whole time. I would've been grumpy too.
